Rummery Park campground
06-09-2025 08:00 – 07-09-2025 16:00
Meeting at 8am on Saturday at Rummery Park. We will hike up the path towards Camp 3 on the edge of the Wanganui Gorge. On the way there we will take a short cut that takes us past a small off-track waterfall. After the camp site we will descend into the Secret Chasm. We will use part of the new trail to get to North Rocks Rd. Our camp is about 800m down this road on a cascade. On Sunday we will hike back up to Tungun Rd where we will leave our packs. (It will be good to have a small day pack to hold lunch. I have 2 spare ). The highlight of the weekend is to then scramble up Rocky Creek to its origin. This is a rainforest wonderland of waterfalls and cascades: my favourite place! In the arvo we will circle past Camp 2 and return a different way to the cars. Wanganui
08:00 – 16:00
Lost Valley is hardly ever visited and is pristine rainforest, having never been logged. We climb up a steep path to the top of the Wanganui waterfall where there are a number of rockpools. We then enter the Valley where the stream glides silently out of this 'Garden of Eden'. After about a kilometre the stream starts to burble as it descends through boulders that have fallen from 150m high cliffs. We finally come to a 50m waterfall that is not even marked on maps!  Grade 3-4. Leader Steve, 0414312917. Assistant Mary 0421701949

Goonengerry National Park
09:00 – 14:30
Our walk in Goonengerry National Park will take us around the perimeter of the park where most people don't venture. Starting at the South Boundary trail until we reach the highest point in the park where the tall trees are. Then we return via the Lyrebird trail to the Waterfall trail and along Garrong Road to the start. A lovely outing with relatively easy walking with short ascents and descents along well established trails and dirt tracks with varied scenery and open ecualypt forests. We’ll stop by the first waterfall for lunch where we absorb the magnificent view and the brave can take a dip in the waters. This would be an especially good walk for newcomers to the club’s activities. We meet at 9 am. Aim to finish early to mid-afternoon. Will send out an email on Thursday with final details and once the weather forecast is known. About 5 hours of walking including the breaks. Grade 3. Distance about 9 kms. Brummies Lookout
08:30 – 16:30
Join me for a spectacular walk to the edge of the Wollumbin Caldera overlooking World Heritage listed Gondwana rainforest. Our walk starts outside of Tyalgum, near Murwillumbah. We ascend a steep fire trail (Brummies Road) for over 400 m until we reach Brummies Lookout with views across the valley to Mount Wollumbin. This will be our morning tea stop. Then we edge our way down to the ridge that runs alongside the caldera passing through ancient forest where the work of the old-time loggers is still visible. This is off track walking as the ‘path’ is almost non-existent. We join a logging trail, partly overgrown, until we reach Condowie Road taking us through tall eucalypt and rainforest trees. We stop for lunch by the creek that crosses the road where it feels like we’re in a natural amphitheatre. Can boil the billy. Another 30 minutes walking and we’re back to Rummies Road with a short hike back to our cars. Grade 4. 11 kms. Total walk time about 5 hrs with breaks. Allow from 8.30 to 4.30 full day. Suitable for fit walkers only who are comfortable with a steep ascent and with off-track walking. We could drop into Murwillumbah for gelato on the way home, if we have time. Meet at Brunswick Heads 8.30 am to carpool to Brummies Lookout for the 1 hour 15 minutes’ drive to the start of the walk. Will send an email Thursday prior with final details and once the weather forecast is known. Leader: David Roland Email: david@davidroland.com.au
